National Forklift Safety Day (NFSD) returns for 2022 with the theme of Operator Training.
This year, the campaign is focusing on the importance of the life cycle of operator training and its vital contribution to the safety of all people on site.
Established by the Industrial truck Association (ITA), National Forklift Safety Day is celebrated globally. As part of a commitment to raise standards and improve the safe operation of materials handling equipment, the British Industrial Truck Association (BITA) promote National Forklift Safety Day throughout the UK.

Operator training features
- Knowledge of equipment and its operational characteristics, application information and how to recognise hazards and special situations can help operators avoid risks while remaining productive.
- Operator forklift truck training can help significantly in promoting a safe working environment for all employees and is a legal requirement in many countries where regulations require specialised training and regular re-training for materials handling equipment operators, and remedial training for operators involved in accidents or near accidents.
- Product, equipment and facility damage and waste which can result in increased cost of ownership costs can be significantly reduced.
- Forklift truck training of all employees on site to understand the operating characteristics of materials handling equipment when working in their proximity and the rules that are established for their safety in specific environments by their employers can help to significantly reduce or prevent accidents.
- Having specific documented workplace rules and enforcement of those rules can help reinforce safety in the workplace.
